Florida Paddle Trip
January 17, 2020 - January 20, 2020
Wild monkeys, manatee and alligators – Oh My! Our most popular WILD winter trip is back for a 3rd year.
These are just a few of the wild animals we may encounter on our annual Florida Paddle Trip. Camping inside the Ocala National Forest, kayaking and canoeing on local springs and evening campfires are just some the things you will experience during this trip.
Departing Columbus at 8:00am on Friday January 17th, we will travel down to Juniper Springs Recreation Area inside the Ocala National Forest, where we will spend 3 nights camping among the pines of the Reserve Americas Top 100 Family Campgrounds.
On Saturday we will strap on our lifejackets and head down to the the springs within the park to canoe the Juniper Springs Canoe run. This 7 mile journey starts just below the springs and travels through Juniper Prairie Wilderness. Here you will be canoeing under a dense canopy of old growth forests on the narrow, winding winding waterway. We will be stopping to ear our packed lunches during the paddle, as there are only a few places during this paddle that you can actually get out on.
After the canoe trip we will return back to camp for dinner and a campfire, to get a good nights rest before our Sunday’s adventure.
Sunday we will awake, have breakfast and travel to Silver Springs – one of Florida’s most treasured landscapes since the 1870’s. As one of the largest artesian springs ever discovered, audiences have long been captured by the springs natural beauty and vibrant clarity. At the springs we will be kayaking the 5 mile stretch of the Silver River, where you will have a chance to see wild Rhesus monkeys, manatees, alligators and may species of wild birds and fish. After our paddle we will return back to our campsite for dinner and evening activities.
On Monday we will awake, have breakfast, pack up camp and travel back to Columbus.
